Washington minimum wage overview
Washington has one of the highest minimum wages in the country. Washington's minimum wage adjusts annually based on the Consumer Price Index. Seattle, SeaTac, and other cities have higher local minimum wages. Washington does not allow a tip credit.
Washington prohibits the tip credit entirely - all employees including tipped workers receive the full minimum wage. Seattle's minimum wage significantly exceeds the state rate and has been as high as $17.27 per hour for large employers. Washington's inflation indexing has been in place since 1998.

Washington minimum wage is governed by Washington Revised Code RCW 49.46.020 (RCW § 49.46.020). This statute establishes the minimum hourly wage that Washington employers must pay covered employees.

What if my employer pays less than minimum wage?
If your employer is paying you less than the Washington minimum wage of $16.66 per hour, you have the right to file a wage claim with the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries. You may be entitled to recover back wages plus penalties. Most states allow you to recover unpaid wages going back 2-3 years. You can also file a complaint with the federal U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division which enforces the federal minimum wage under the FLSA.
